The philosophy
Pentimentolism is a philosophy of layered self-authorship. It holds that every version of you is a real layer — true when it was made — that persists beneath the next. You become not by erasing the canvas, but by repainting it.
It's built on three ideas about how the self works, four things it asks of you as a practice, and one rule for what to keep and what to refuse. The canonical statement is the precise form. The manifesto is the rallying voice. The reference card is the one-page scan. The essays are where the philosophy meets specific cases — Springsteen, Bowie, and its own revisions.
02
The person who coined it
Prashant Kaw is the author. Anthropologist, developer, marketer, founder — each version was real when it was lived; each next version was truer, but only because the older ones were still holding it up. Pentimentolism began as a language for that shape of a life.
The philosophy is now on its fifth published version. The versions themselves are the point — browsable here, with the seams visible. If the philosophy asks you to show your pivots, it should show its own.

Where the thinking continues
This site holds the philosophy itself. The ongoing thinking around it — essays in progress, applications to specific cases, the work of testing the framework against hard problems — lives at the Substack:
Not a book yet. Not a course. Just the philosophy itself — free to read, layered over time, with the changes visible.
